Marcelle Elliott

Marcelle Marie Elliott, long-time resident of Los Alamos passed away peacefully, Friday, June 1, 2007, in her home at Oppenheimer Place in Los Alamos at the age of 88. Marcelle was born in Winnipeg, Canada on July 21, 1918 but lived her early years in the Los Angeles, California area. She married in 1942. She and her husband John “Dan” Elliott moved to Los Alamos 1949 where they raised their family of five children.

Marcelle and husband Dan, operated the Los Alamos Photo Shop, a local business, for 30 years. Their business served the community by providing photo processing, photo equipment, portraits, along with school, graduation and wedding photos. Marcelle managed the daily transactions, accounting and taxes for the business until she and Dan retired in 1985.

Marcelle was an active member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish here in Los Alamos for almost 60 years. In the parish, she served as the leader of the Christian Concern Committee for 19 years. This organization served the community by providing clothing, furniture and needed supplies to families in the Los Alamos and Espanola area.

Marcelle’s greatest passions in her retirement were traveling, and making quilts. After retirement, Marcelle and Dan traveled extensively, especially in their RV to places in the Southwest and to her favorite spot on the beach in Mexico. When asked how many quilts she had made over the years, Marcelle remarked that she had lost count. Quilting became an art form for her as she designed and made each quilt matched to its recipient.

Marcelle was predeceased by her parents Joseph R. DuMolin and wife Bertha. And most recently by her husband of 64 years, John “Dan” Elliott, who died February 21, 2007.

She is survived by her children: Joanne (Junius) Rochester of Seattle, Washington; Barbara (Paul) Macks of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; Jeanne (Brian) Tracey of Santa Fe; Carol Wolk of Colorado Springs, Colorado; Brian (Cindy) Elliott of Colorado Springs, Colorado; 8 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren, 3 nieces and a nephew.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, June 8, 2007, at 10:30 a.m. at Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish at 3700 Canyon Road in Los Alamos.

Family and friends mourn the loss of Marcelle. She led a full and active life for 88 years. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations can be made to the Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish.
